De Waterkant is more than just a beautiful neighborhood—it’s a unique heritage-protected area with a strong sense of community. The DWCA works tirelessly to preserve its charm, ensure responsible development, improve infrastructure, and foster a safe and welcoming environment for all.
For just R300 per year per household (or R600 per business), you can benefit from these efforts while gaining a direct say in local matters that affect you. Membership is annual (January–December) and includes voting rights, community updates, and access to key discussions and resources.
1. Heritage & Built Environment
De Waterkant’s character is under constant pressure from development. Many properties are over 60 years old and legally protected, but not all developers or city officials respect this status. The DWCA advocates for responsible development, preserving the look, feel, and property values of our neighbourhood.

2. Parking & Traffic Solutions
With increasing urban densification, parking has become a major issue. Many new developments are exempt from traditional parking space requirements, leading to congestion from commuters and visitors. The DWCA is actively engaging with the City to implement resident-friendly solutions, including a residents' parking permit system.

3. Managing Film Shoots
De Waterkant’s picturesque streets and historic charm make it a popular location for film and TV productions. While this brings exposure and economic benefits, it may also impact residents with road closures, noise, and disruptions. The DWCA’s Film Shoot sub-committee works to balance community interests with the needs of the industry, ensuring that filming remains well-managed and respectful of residents' daily lives.
